Client

The client is a multi-family office and investment firm that provides independent advisory services to individuals and families seeking personalized financial guidance. With a client relationship spanning over 20 years, their average family net worth comprises $30 million.

Business Challenge

The company wanted to create an easy-to-use and feature-rich platform to track and predict investments based on home equity. 

The main challenge was to create software that would generate reports based on contracts assigned to the Client’s portfolio. It should have had a set of features aimed at strategic tracking of active contracts and pending ownership.


The main reason for creating the platform was the client’s desire to scale their investments. The investment management team wanted to make smart investment choices, understand risks, and adjust their portfolio as home equity investments evolved.

We developed a user-friendly and feature-packed platform for monitoring and forecasting investments. Through a cutting-edge ETL process, this platform harnesses historical data and advanced algorithms to create a customizable forecasting model adaptable to diverse business strategies.

  • The solution’s architecture is defined by four integrated functional domains:

    Governance Domain: Managed folder hierarchies and validation logic that govern how data enters the system.

  • The “Imports” feature is a critical component of the platform. Imports rely on a structured system of files and folders to execute its functions seamlessly. It encompasses several key functionalities to facilitate the smooth and accurate processing of data:

    File structure validation: validates the underlying file structure to ensure proper functionality.

    Location-based verification: confirms the accuracy of a selected report by checking its location in designated folders.

    Discrepancy detection: identifies issues like importing a file into the wrong folder.

    User guidance: provides clear messages indicating the specific discrepancy and guiding them on the corrective action.

    Data accuracy: stops the import process if discrepancies are found, ensuring accurate data.

    Relocation prompt: asks users to move the report to the correct folder before trying the import again.

    Organized folder hierarchy: maintains a well-organized structure, separating reports by type and originators.

    Retry mechanism: allows users to retry the import after fixing the file placement.


  • Developing such complicated software won’t be possible without using a state-of-the-art tech stack:

    Front-end: React.js, Redux.js (State Management), TypeScript (Static Typing), SASS (Advanced Styling), Chart.js / D3.js (Investment Data Visualization).

  • To reach the goal set, we developed a Valuation Model that significantly impacted investment predictions for The Client’s Alternative Strategies Fund (AS Fund). The comprehensive functionality revolved around a thorough examination of all contracts within the fund.

    These features contributing to the effectiveness of the Valuation Model include:

    Contract examination: carefully reviews all contracts, whether active or pending ownership.

    Accurate data mapping: ensures precise mapping of contract addresses to specific Metropolitan Statistical Areas/Core-based Statistical Areas (MSA/CBSA) for accurate valuation calculations.

    Singular query operation: utilizes a singular query to generate a detailed dataset of contracts marked for valuation.

    External validation via CSV: creates a CSV file for submission to a third-party evaluator, facilitating external validation of internal valuations.

    Internal valuation: simultaneously evaluates the same dataset through the Valuation Model for internal calculations.

    Manual comparison: compares results manually after the third-party evaluation.

    Reliable cross-check: CSV submission initiates a cross-checking process, enhancing investment prediction reliability.
